baby shower

PARTY
January 20, 2017 / By / 2 Comments

Back to blogging! I took a couple weeks off for a family vacation (we did our first ever Disney Cruise with our little one––it was a blast!). This week I’m catching up on life, my real work, and (finally) now some blogging!

My dear sister-in-law from California and her husband are expecting a baby boy in March! While they were home for the holidays I threw them a little baby shower––I had so much fun planning and decorating! I wanted to share a few of the photos from the event with you!

The theme was inspired by my sister-in-law. She is such a gentle and kind spirit and one of the most creative people I know. Her and I shared similar childhoods––we spent every minute we could outside, drinking in the wild air, building forts in the woods, and collecting quirky little things that we found beautiful. I went for a nature collection/a cabinet of curiosities theme.

Scroll down for photos and details!

Location: District 5 School House

Catering: Righteous Cuisine

This shower was so much fun to pull together! The location really set the stage! District 5 School House has been completely revamped for parties and weddings–it has all the charm, but all the amenities one might need! I love the character of this building! I’m already thinking of different events to host here down the road!  And those blackboards!? Of course I had to incorporate those with some chalk art!

All about the details! I utilized my childhood leaf and bug collection + some of my dad’s old medical school notes and textbooks! (Thanks to my mom for hanging on to all those!)

Prepping the drink table and doing a little last minute decorating! The food was delicious–catered by Righteous Cuisine. Their winter salad is one of Jen’s favorite things to eat when she is in town. I asked them for a “make your own salad bar”–kale, roasted vegetables, pickled onions, smoked chicken, pepitas, queso, and dressing. Of course there was also chips and guac…because how could I not? They make the best!

Library card invites…thank you Minted!

salad toppings!

These are my dad’s old textbooks! I love reusing things and I’m a sucker for anything with a little bit of a story!

This room at the District 5 School House was so perfect for the event! The staff was incredibly helpful! This is just one of the several rooms–the entire building is SO unique…it’s incredible!

Righteous Cuisine catering! One of my favorite places…delicious!

These little meat and cheese cones makes the perfect appetizers! They’re from Aperitivo at the Downtown Market Grand Rapids. Have you been!? You NEED to go! All their stuff is amazing!

Side note…I love this long BCBG sweater from Sparrow Boutique. I can’t wait to dress it down with jeans, and a white top–so versatile!

Aperitivo cheese cones!

I would’ve never guessed, but Home Depot has some pretty rad indoor plants–I love the bright green color of these two!

Simple little favors! Sweet Batches makes the most delicious shortbread cookies. Hands down, the most delicious. Each guest received one classic shortbread and one dark chocolate espresso short bread…so yummy!

Last, but certainly not least, the beautiful couple! I know, without a doubt, they’re going to be incredible parents! Ooh, and be sure to checkout their business! Dutch + Finn…you’re in for a real treat! So much talent!
